Training: A typical day of training is 2 to 3 practices a day, 6 days a week, split every other day with grappling and striking. Strength and conditioning is split the same way throughout my camp.
When and why did you start training for fighting? I wrestled my whole life and I wanted to continue to compete.
What ranks and titles have you held? Total Combat 145 & 155 lb champion. Number 1 ranked ROTC fighter.
Do you have any heroes? My mom
What is your favorite technique? Uppercut
What does it mean for you to fight in the WEC? Beginning of a wonderful career. I am here to stay.
What was your job before you started fighting? Customer service rep
Most memorable professional fight (who, where, why)? Probably my win over Charlie Valencia at WEC because he is known as a tough opponent and it was my first win in the WEC
What was your most challenging professional fight (against who, when, what was the outcome)? Dave Hisquierdo at Total Combat. The fight went three rounds and I ended up winning a split decision, but it was a tough fight. I wasn’t as versatile then as I am now and I took a beating but still took home the W.
Did you compete in any other sport(s) at college or professional level (what sport, where, how long)? Not at the college or pro level, but I wrestled in High School
Who were your training partners for this fight? My training partners have been Danny Martinez, Nick Gonzalez, Rolando Perez, Shannon Gugerty, Joel Tudor, among others.
Did you put more emphasis towards a fighting style or adjust your training to prepare for your opponent (what did you do differently/why)? My fighting style continues to be elusive, and quick, always focusing on a high pace. His style will be forced to adjust to mine.
What, other than WINNING, are you using for motivation for the fight? For motivation I use the well being of my life, and the sacrifices that I have made to reach this point. There never is an option to lose.
What is your favorite thing about this sport? Being able to influence others positively. How long do you see yourself staying in this sport? Until my body refuses fighting anymore.
